I have stayed at many Marriotts before. Unfortunately, this one was notably a negative experience. In general, the room was tidy, clean, and maintained. The issue lies in the curtains and constant light. Room 231 is immediately outside of the 24/7 lit up sign. Initially I thought I would be able to sleep, but woke up at 2:30 in the morning to my room looking like it was midday with the curtains drawn. The room was fully lit up because of the sign outside. This room’s curtains did not extend floor to ceiling or even edge to edge. The option was to pack up and move to a new room at nearly 3am when I had to get to a conference just a couple of hours later. I moved the ironing board and leaned it against the curtain edge to try to seal the gap of bright light (referenced in my photo) and tried to tuck bathroom towels underneath the curtain. This room’s lack of curtains would prevent anyone from being able to sleep. The front desk seemed unconcerned when I told them—but hopefully there is a work order for new curtains.

The day was good. We like taking the kids to theme park so we went to Six Flags. Great America. The check-in staff was absolutely amazing, especially Phylicia and her assisting front end management. They were super nice and accommodating at everything we needed. The rooms are clean, safe, close proximity to walking distance to things like Starbucks, Walmart. If we visit six flags again we will definitely be staying here.

My stay at SpringHill Suites Waukegan was amazing overall. The rooms were spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The breakfast was convenient and well-stocked, the shuttle driver was extremely friendly, and everyone at the front desk was welcoming and helpful. Lisa was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Unfortunately, my experience at the hotel bar was completely different and left a negative impression. The first bartender I encountered on Wednesday May 27th , a white male whose name I did not catch, was rude and unwelcoming from the moment I approached the bar. I walked up and politely asked if there was a drink menu. His response was simply, "We don't have one." Another guest sitting at the bar then jumped in and said, "It's a hotel bar." What bothered me most was not only the response but the way I was treated. The look he gave me before answering made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. As a Black guest, I left the interaction feeling like I was being treated differently. Hospitality is about making guests feel welcome, and that was not my experience at all.
